Two Essences two worlds

Lykkers, essence is one of those skincare steps people either completely skip… or become obsessed with once they find the right one. I used to think all essences felt basically the same—light texture, quick pat, done.
But after trying both Safi Crystal Essence and SK-II Treatment Essence, I realized the experience can feel wildly different depending on the formula, texture, and even the mood it creates during skincare time. Both of these essences promise smoother, fresher-looking skin, but honestly? They feel like they belong in two completely different worlds.
1. Safi Crystal Essence
Price: Around $15–$22
The Safi Crystal Essence surprised me because it feels much more refreshing than I expected from a brightening essence. The texture is light and watery, but not too plain—it has a slightly silky feel when spread across the skin. Once applied, it absorbs quickly without leaving behind a sticky layer, which made me reach for it often during hot or humid days.
What I personally enjoy most is how comfortable it feels for everyday use. Some brightening skincare can feel too “active” or overwhelming after layering multiple products, but this one stays soft and easygoing. The scent also feels cleaner and lighter compared to luxury essences that sometimes lean heavier or fermented. Another thing I appreciate? The price feels far less intimidating, so I never hesitate to use a generous amount.
2. SK-II Treatment Essence
Price: Around $99–$185
The SK-II Treatment Essence feels completely different from the moment it touches the skin. The texture itself is extremely watery, almost like plain liquid, but somehow the finish feels richer and more noticeable afterward. Using this essence honestly feels more like a skincare ritual than a quick step.
The skin starts looking smoother and more refined over time, especially when used consistently. I noticed my skin looked more balanced and clearer after several weeks, particularly during periods when my skin texture felt uneven.
If I wanted an essence I could use generously every single day without guilt, I’d happily choose Safi. But if the goal was creating that polished “expensive skincare glow” experience, SK-II definitely feels special.
