Some days I want my makeup to look polished, but I still want my skin to look like skin. Blush has become the step I enjoy most because it changes the whole face without requiring much effort.

I usually gravitate towards creams and liquids, especially when I want colour that feels softer and less structured than powder. These three formulas all give me that effect, but in noticeably different ways.

1. Glossier Cloud Paint

Glossier Cloud Paint is the one I reach for when I want that diffused, slightly blurred flush rather than something glossy or obviously creamy. I like applying a very small amount first because the colour builds quickly, and I find it much easier to add more than to correct an overenthusiastic first layer. What surprised me most was how naturally it melts into the rest of my base. I usually tap it in with my fingers, concentrating the colour slightly higher on my cheeks, and the result feels casual but still polished. It is the sort of blush I choose when I do not want my makeup to look overly “done”.

2. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Blush

The Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Blush feels a little softer and more fluid to me. I tend to reach for it when my skin looks tired and I want the cheeks to have a fresher, almost moisturised appearance. It spreads easily, so I have enough time to work with it before everything settles into place. I particularly like using my fingers with this one because the warmth of my hands helps me blend the edges without losing the colour completely. The finish looks smoother and more luminous than the Glossier formula, which makes it especially nice with lighter base makeup.

3. Persona Blush Stick

The Persona Blush Stick is the quickest of the three. I can swipe it directly onto my cheeks, blend with my fingers or a brush, and move on. I expected the stick format to feel heavier, but I found it surprisingly easy to sheer out. The warm terracotta tone shown here gives my makeup a slightly more sculpted feel, so I tend to choose it when I want colour without anything overly pink. It also feels particularly convenient when I am doing my makeup in a hurry.

What I like about these three is that none of them creates exactly the same effect. Glossier gives me softness, Laura Mercier adds fresher luminosity, and Persona is the easiest when I want warmth quickly. For me, that difference in texture is what makes cream blushes so much fun to rotate.
